HOW DOES BOTOX WORK?
Botox is an injection treatment performed using a small needle. The needle injects Botox into the designated area, where it targets the group of muscles causing the wrinkles. This blocks the signals sent from the brain, to the nerves in those muscles, ultimately keeping the muscles from contracting. This results in a softened, and flattened top layer of skin, thus eliminating the appearance of any wrinkles.

Botox is generally a quick and simple procedure, making it one of the most popular anti-aging treatments. Botox patients range in age, but all desire to preserve their youth and self-confidence through a smooth, fresh face. Botox results can sometimes vary depending on the level of skin laxity. Some patients may see wrinkles shrink rather than disappear altogether.
WHAT TO EXPECT
When it comes to getting Botox for the first time, it’s completely normal to have a few questions. These are the most common questions we are asked:
“Is it painful?” – It is hardly painful at all! In fact, most of our patients are surprised by just how painless getting Botox is! We use a very thin and small needle to make it as comfortable as possible. If you’ve ever had Acupuncture, the feeling of getting Botox is quite similar to that!
“How long does it take?” – While we schedule our Botox appointments in 30 minute increments, the actual administration of Botox is over in a matter of seconds. The fact that the procedure itself is so quick, helps convey just how virtually painless it is!
“When does it kick in?” – This is one of the most common misconceptions about Botox. Botox takes anywhere from 3-10 days to kick in (which is important to note if you have a big event coming up!) This means you won’t feel any pain or numbness when leaving our office, and it will take a few days before you begin to see any results!
“How long does it last?” – In order to maintain your results, we recommend visiting our office every 3-4 months for Botox treatments. While some wish it lasted longer, the fact that Botox isn’t permanent is preferred by those who are trying it for the first time.
